A Safe Place for Elephants

Providing home, herd, rest, refuge, and individualized care for life.
Picture
Welcome to the exciting new conservation project at Chriscon Farms, Prescott.

The Elephant Sanctuary at Chriscon Farms will provide captive elephants with individualized care, the companionship of a herd, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being, as well as educating the public of the complex needs of elephants in captivity and the crisis facing elephants in the wild.

Our Multi Million Dollar Expansion

In order to meet the needs of these elephants, we realize that a large investment in infrastructure is needed. We have made a commitment to the conservation of elephants and will be constructing a 25,000 square foot elephant barn, which will house up to 10 elephants at a time.

Connected on the back of the barn, the elephants will be able to come and go as they please, onto their 40 acre pasture.

Meet Our New Elephants

We have teamed up with leading veterinarians and animal conservation professionals to provide the home to 2 elephants by winter 2017.

Our passion for animal welfare has brought us on this journey, we are now very excited to be welcoming these elephants to our farm by the end of 2017.

DEBBIE, Asian Elephant

Picture
Debbie was born wild in Asia in 1971, captured at a young age, shipped to America, and purchased by a circus. For more than 20 years, Debbie was one of several elephants who performed with the Clyde-Beatty Cole Brothers Circus, a large tent circus that traveled across the U.S. In 1995, as the elephants were being walked through a crowded parking lot to the tent for their performance, Debbie dropped out of line and chased Frieda (another elephant that would eventually find a home at The Sanctuary) through the parking lot and into the window of a Sears building. Both elephants sustained minor cuts. Shortly after this incident, Debbie was sold to the Hawthorn Corporation, a company in Illinois that trained and leased elephants to circuses. Debbie was 25 years old. In 2006, as a result of USDA prosecutions against the Hawthorn Corporation for violations of the Animal Welfare act involving inadequate care and mistreatment of its elephants, Debbie and seven other Hawthorn elephants were sent to The Sanctuary.

April Fools!

Did we fool you? The truth is, we are not opening an elephant sanctuary at Chriscon Farms. Our passion remains with horses and we will continue to do so for years to come.

We should mention that the heartbreaking story of Debbie is not a joke, it is a true one. Debbie currently lives at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. The Elephant Sanctuary is working to provide a safe haven where elephants can retire with dignity,
roam free in a natural habitat, and receive a lifetime of individualized care. 100% of proceeds of your donation goes directly to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee to help care for the elephants in residence.
